At about 4.15 a.m. on the 25th of January 2009, Gardai received a report of a house fire at Hilltown Close, Rivervalley, Swords in Dublin.
At about 4.15 a.m. on the 25th of January 2009, Gardai received a report of a house fire at Hilltown Close, Rivervalley, Swords in Dublin. On arrival at the scene they found a female trapped in a first floor back bedroom. A Garda tried to enter the house by the front door but was beaten back by smoke and flames. Gardai then used a ladder from a neigbouring house to rescue the woman.
Three children aged 10, 4 and 1 year were earlier rescued from the house a boyfriend of the woman. This man was not in the house at the time but arrived following a telephone call from the woman.
The woman, who is her late twenties, and the three children were was taken to Temple Street Children's Hospital where they are being treated for smoke inhalation.
The house was extensively damaged in the incident and an investigation is under way into the cause of the fire. Initial indications are that the cause of the fire was accidental.
