Gardai at Mullingar are investigating a two vehicle fatal road traffic collision on the N4 outside Mullingar at approximately 5pm this evening, the 3/12/09.
The collision involved a van and a jeep towing a trailer. Both vehicles were travelling in the same direction. A four year old boy, who was travelling in the jeep, was fatally injured and taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar where he was pronounced dead. The driver and another passenger in the jeep were also taken to hospital. The driver of the van did not require hospital treatment.
The road is currently closed pending an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and diversions are in place.
