Seizure of cigarettes near Mullingar, Westmeath on the 20/8/09

Investigations are being carried out to establish if the cigarettes are counterfeit.

Gardai have seized a quantity of cigarettes near Mullingar, Co. Westmeath this afternoon, the 20th of August 2009.  Gardai on routine patrol stopped and searched a car at Crookedwood, Mullingar at 12.30p.m.

A quantity of Cigarettes valued at €10,000 was seized.  Investigations are being carried out to establish if the cigarettes are counterfeit.

A man in his forties who was the driver and only occupant of the car was questioned in relation to the incident.
