The post-mortem examination on the body of Roy Collins has concluded. The results show that he died from trauma to the body as a result of a single gunshot wound.

The Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy has strongly condemned the murder of Roy Collins at Roxboro Limerick yesterday, the 9/4/09.

Speaking at Grada HQ today, the 10/4/09, the Commissioner has expressed  sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Mr. Collins and pledged that no resource will be spared in bringing those responsible to justice.

The Commissioner stated that “this appalling crime has no place in Irish Society. Due to the actions of a small number of vicious criminals it has been necessary for me to increase the Garda strength in Limerick over the past two years by more than 100 officers.

In addition to these local resources I have made available the resources of the National Specialist Units to the Regional Assistant Commissioner, Kevin Ludlow, who is coordinating the investigation.

He has briefed me on progress to date and he and the Garda force in Limerick have my full support in confronting and facing down the criminals who seek to destroy the good name of the city of Limerick. They will not succeed and An Garda Siochana will do it’s utmost in accordance with the rule of law, to bring those responsible before the courts”.

Referring to previous investigations in the Limerick area the Commissioner continued “ experience has shown us that by coordinating resources, targeting our activities and working with the community we have successfully disrupted much criminal activity and placed many of those involved behind bars. I am conscious of the difficulties facing potential witnesses in these cases but I am determined to ensure that intimidation will not be allowed to disrupt the criminal justice process”.
