Gardaí in Galway yesterday (Saturday 6th September) seized 17.5kgs of commercial explosives.
The seizure arose as a result of an ongoing operation against organised crime involving Gardaí from the Galway West Division and National Support Units.
A total of five people (four males and one female) are currently in custody in various stations in Co. Galway. They range in age from 25 to 33, and are being held under the provisions of Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939.
The explosives will not be displayed, and nobody will be put forward for interview at this time. The Gardaí are treating this seizure as as significant.
