Crimecall

Crimecall

Crimecall is a monthly hour-long television programme which airs on RTE One on Tuesdays at 10.15pm. It was first aired in September 2004 and is now in its fifth series. The programme is presented by Ann Cassin and Con Murphy.

The programme attracts an average audience of 360,000 viewers. The studio receives about 100 calls from members of the public during and after the programme.  In some cases these calls identify a suspect in the investigation. In almost all cases they provide new avenues of investigation. The calls are passed on to the investigators in each case.

The programme provides an in-depth analysis of crime, including televised re-enactments geared towards maximising the public response. In addition to serious crime, the programme includes special features on matters of public concern e.g. road safety, drug abuse, missing persons and crime prevention advice.

The Community Relations Unit, assisted by the Garda Press & Public relations Office is responsible for Crimecall. The main objective of the Community Relations Unit is to gain the support and confidence of the public. It also aims to provide a quality service to the community as a whole and the individual citizen. Crimecall supports these aims and is therefore a most important part of the Community Relations remit. It also encourages the public to engage with An Garda Síochána in the prevention and solving of crime which is a central aspect of the Policing Plan.
