Pipe bomb explosion in Spittalfields, Dublin on the 23/5/08.

Gardai at Kevin Street Garda Station are investigating an explosion which occurred in the Spittalfields area of Dublin.

 

Gardai at Kevin Street Garda Station are investigating an explosion which occurred in the Spittalfields area of Dublin on the 23rd May 2008. The explosion occurred at approximately 11pm. 

On arrival at the scene the Gardai discovered that the back windows of a house had been blown in. 

There were 2 adults and 5 children (ages range from 2 years to 10 years) present in the house at the time of the explosion.  No one was injured. 

A number of houses in the Spittalfields were evacuated and the scene was cordoned off. 

An Army Explosive Ordinance Disposal team subsequently arrived and confirmed that the damage had been caused by a pipe bomb. 

At 12.45am approximately the scene was declared safe and the evacuated residents (with the exception of the house where the explosion occurred) were allowed to return home. 

The scene is currently being preserved pending a full technical examination and an investigation is underway.  Anyone with information is asked to contact Kevin Street Garda Station on 01-6669400.
