Fatal road traffic collision on the N13, Letterkenny to Ballybofey Road on the 26/5/08 and name.

Gardai are investigating a fatal road traffic collision on the N13, Letterkenny to Ballybofey Road.

 

Gardai have named the 34 year old man killed in yesterday's (26th May 2008) crash near Ballybofey, Co Donegal as Bernard Doherty of Coolboy, Letterkenny, Co Donegal. 

Mr. Doherty was fatally injured when his car was in collision with a bus.

Gardai are investigating a fatal road traffic collision on the 26th of May 2008 at 4.30 pm. 

The crash occurred on the N13, Letterkenny to Ballybofey Road, Donegal. 

There were two vehicles involved in the collision, a Volkswagen Passat and a Bus Eireann bus on a regular run from Derry to  Donegal Town. 

The Passat was travelling from Ballybofey to Letterkenny and the bus was travelling in the opposite direction. 

Following the collision the bus, which was fitted with seatbelts, turned over on its side in a field. 

The driver of the car, a 34 year old Donegal man, was pronounced dead at Letterkenny General Hospital.   

There were 29 people on the bus, 27 are students of the Royal and Prior Secondary School in Raphoe. One student was taken to Letterkenny General with minor injuries, the other 26 were removed to hospital as a precaution but are not thought to be injured. 

A man in his 70's was taken to hospital with minor injuries and the bus driver was uninjured. 

The road at the scene of the crash remains closed while Gardai carry out a forensic crash scene investigation and is expected to remain closed for a number of hours, anyone travelling  between Ballybofey and Letterkenny is asked to detour via Lifford.
