Gardai at Athlone are investigating a traffic collision at Dublin Road, Athlone on the 23rd of March 2008 at 23.40h.
A 22 year old male pedestrian was struck by a car being driven by an 18 year male.
The 22 year old man received serious head injuries and was removed to Portiuncula Hospital, Ballinasloe, Co Galway.
The driver of the car was arrested at the scene and taken to Athlone Garda Station, he was later released and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The roadway at the scene of the crash remains closed pending an examination of the area by Garda Forensic Crash Scene Investigators.
It is expected to remain closed until this afternoon.
