All road users are once again asked to be vigilant and to take all necessary steps to ensure their safety and the safety of other road users.
Significant extra Garda resources will be deployed again on Easter weekend aimed at increasing compliance amongst drivers, and thus reducing the rate of deaths and injuries on the roads.
St. Patrick’s Day holiday period saw a considerable increase in detected drink driving incidents recorded (approximately 25%) when compared to the same period in 2007.
Additional Garda resources will be deployed again over the coming days to combat drink driving over the Easter holiday period.
The message to drivers is:-
• Never drink and drive.
• Have a nominated non-drinking driver or use public transport, taxis/hackneys if going out for a drink.
All road users are once again asked to be vigilant and to take all necessary steps to ensure their safety and the safety of other road users.
Drivers should remember that inappropriate speed is the single greatest contributory factor to road deaths and serious injuries, and so they should slow down and ensure they allow plenty of time to get to their destinations.
