At 2.15am on the 13/3/08 a Polish national arrived at the house off the Fr. Russell Road, Limerick City, where he was staying for the weekend with friends. He was in a distressed state and suffering from burns to his face and hands. He was removed to Limerick regional Hospital and later transferred to Cork Regional Hospital where he is now being treated in a Specialist Burns Unit. He is making a good recovery.
The circumstances giving rise to the man’s injuries are unknown at present and Gardaí are conducting an investigation to determine the facts and establish the location where the injuries were suffered.
On the night in question the man was wearing brown shoes, light blue jeans and a black jacket which bore the following logo inscriptions on the back "SPEED FORCE" written in white; "DYNAMITE MOTION" written in lilac colour, and "MOTOR CYCLE CODF" written in white. The jacket also has two white stripes across the upper back. The first two mentioned logos are repeated on the front of the jacket. The man is of average height and a strong build. He is clean shaven with short hair and a receding hairline.
It is known that the man left Fr. Russell Road at about 7.30pm on the previous evening to socialise in the city centre. It is not known what establishments he may have frequented. He is believed to have been alone. We are now appealing for public assistance in establishing the man’s movements for the remainder of the night up to the time he returned to his friends house. In particular we are appealing to anyone who may have seen this man possibly walking to Fr. Russell Road via Dock Road or Dooradoyle in the period between 1am and 2.15am on Sunday morning 13th January 2008. We also appeal for information in relation to any suspicious activity which anybody may have noticed which may assist our investigation. It is believed that a car (no better description) stopped to talk to the man prior to the incident.
Gardai have now spoken to the injured man and are satisfied that the incident took place on the Dock Road in Limerick between the Texaco garage and the Castlemungret Roundabout.
Any information can be passed to the Gardai at Roxboro Road Garda Station ph: 061 214340.
A photograph of the injured mans jacket is available at the Garda Press Office.
