Two men are in custody and a large quantity of heroin has been seized following an operation at Dublin Port on the 16th of December 2008.
The men, who are both Dutch nationals one aged 55 and the other aged 39, were arrested during an operation involving the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation, the Garda National Drugs Unit, and officers from Revenue's Customs Service shortly after 9.30 p.m. They are detained under Section 2 of the Drug Trafficking Act at Store Street Garda Station and may be held for up to seven days.
30 kgs of heroin were seized when two trucks were stopped and searched in a planned operation. The heroin was concealed in a consignment of flowers. The drugs subject to analysis may have a street value of six million euro.
