As part of the investigation into the murder of Anthony Russell on Friday 18th April 2008, Gardaí from Coolock, assisted by officers from other District Detective Units, the Special Detective Unit (SDU) and National Bureau of Criminal Investigation (NBCI), this morning 21/04/08 undertook searches of houses (in excess of a dozen) in the North City and North Inner City of Dublin.
The operation commenced shortly after 6a.m. and involved some 120 officers. As part of the operation 12 persons were arrested, all males aged between 20 and 30 years. All are currently detained under the provisions of Section 30 Offences Against the State Act at a number of Garda Stations in the Northern and the North Central Garda divisions. These include Whitehall, Santry, Clontarf, Coolock, and Store Street Stations.
During the searches a number of computers, documents etc were seized and will be assessed and examined. Small quantities of drugs were also seized.
The investigation is ongoing and you will be advised of further significant developments.

Gardai have named the 30 year old man fatally injured in a shooting on the 18th of April 2008, as Anthony Russell of Cromcastle Drive, Kilmore, Dublin 5.
A post mortem examination carried out on the 19th April, by the State Pathologist Dr. Marie Cassidy has established that the cause of death was as a result of gunshot wounds.
