‘Intercultural & Anti – Racism Week’ - Diversiry Community Fair.

The Garda Síochána College, Templemore, are hosting an ‘Intercultural Day’ comprising a Diversity Community Fair event on Friday 11th April 2008.

The Garda Síochána College, Templemore, are hosting an ‘Intercultural Day’ comprising a Diversity Community Fair event on Friday 11th April 2008, from 11.15am to 3pm to mark ‘Intercultural & Anti – Racism Week’ in Ireland.

A number of organisations, representing diverse / minority groups in Ireland, have been invited to set up an ‘Information Point / Stall’ as part of a ‘Diversity Community Fair’ event, to be held on campus, within the Garda Síochána College.

The purpose of this initiative, is to ‘raise awareness and knowledge’ of Diversity and related issues, amongst newly recruited Student Gardaí, who are currently undergoing their ‘Learning and Development Programme’ at the Garda Síochána College.

This event also supports commitments contained, in the Garda Síochána’s Corporate Strategy Plan 2007-2009, in the areas of ‘Ethnic & Cultural Diversity’ and ‘Community Engagement’.

In Ireland, the Garda Síochána has been to the forefront, in driving Intercultural and Diversity ‘Training’, ‘Awareness Raising’ & ‘Community Policing’ initiatives.

This particular event is timely as 2008 has been designated the ‘European Year of Intercultural Dialogue’ and the Garda Síochána are due to launch their Diversity Strategy & Implementation Plan later this year.

The ‘Diversity’ aspect to this event and future Garda Strategy, refers not just to ethnic or international diversity, but also includes wider diverse/minority considerations, such as disability, age, sexual orientation and membership of the traveller community etc.
