Background:
James (Seamus) McIntyre, born on 19th June, 1971, came from Gortamullen, Kenmare, Co. Kerry. The son of a Garda, and having previously worked as a financial consultant, he joined An Garda Síochána as a Trainee on 23rd January, 1995. Garda McIntyre was single. He also served in Galway and Loughrea. He was a keen GAA player in both hurling and football. 

Circumstances:

At 5 a.m. on Sunday, 22nd April, 2001, Garda McIntyre, with his colleague, Garda Brendan Rice, was on mobile patrol on the North Ring Road, Cork, near Ballyvolane, when their patrol car was involved in a collision. Garda McIntyre died from injuries sustained in the accident
