Background:
Patrick McGeehan, born on 11th February, 1904, came from Millside, Fintown, Co. Donegal. He served in the National Army (1922-1928). He joined An Garda Síochána on 17th May, 1928. He was single. Detective Garda McGeehan also served at Clashmore and Kilakee.

Circumstances:

On 14th February, 1932, Detective Garda McGeehan was on protection duty with Mr. Patrick Reynolds, T.D. of Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim. On arrival at his home that day Mr. Reynolds was confronted by a gunman who fired at him from close range. Detective Garda McGeehan engaged the assailant to prevent injury to Mr. Reynolds and was shot dead by the gunman.
