Background:
Ambrose Fogarty, born on 24th August, 1972, came from Shannon View, Terryglass, Nenagh, Co. Tipperary. A student, he joined An Garda Síochána as a Trainee on 25th July, 1994. Garda Fogarty was single and took a keen interest in various sporting activities.

Circumstances:

At 1.20 am on Sunday, 26th September, 1999, Garda Fogarty and Garda Richard Nolan were the crew of the Enniscorthy patrol car that responded to a call to assist Gardai from Gorey in dealing with a serious disturbance outside a night club in the village of Camolin, Co. Wexford. When the patrol car was at Bishopswell, Enniscorthy it was involved in a collision.  Garda Fogarty sustained very serious injuries and died later in hospital.
