Background: John Brennan, born on 20th June, 1945, came from Kilmichael, Hollyfort, Gorey, Co. Wexford. He joined An Garda Síochána on 15th June, 1966 having previously worked as an insurance agent. Promoted Sergeant on 24th March, 1978 he also served at Naas, Corrinshigagh and Robertstown. Sergeant Brennan was a married man with four children, three of whom joined An Garda Síochána. His spare-time activities included Gaelic football, hurling and golf.

Circumstances:

On 4th August, 1982 Sergeant Brennan was travelling in his private car from Ballymore Eustace towards Naas. At a series of dangerous bends at Broadfield, Naas Sergeant Brennan’s vehicle and an articulated lorry travelling in the opposite direction were in a collision.  As a result of the collision Sergeant Brennan was seriously injured and removed to Naas Hospital by ambulance. He died a short time later from severe internal injuries.
