Joined An Garda Siochana in 1986 and served as a Garda in Coolock Garda Station, Dublin and Henry Street, Limerick.

1993: Served with the UNTAC mission in Cambodia, (United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia).

1995: Promoted to Sergeant and served as Instructor at the Student Probationer School, Garda College. Between 1997 and 2002 served as Operational /Community Policing Sergeant in Henry Street District.

2002: Promoted to Inspector and served in Newcastlewest and Henry Street Districts

2007: Promoted to Superintendent and served in Bruff and Roxboro Road Districts.

2010: Promoted to Chief Superintendent and served at the Garda Community Relations Bureau, Harcourt Square until August 2015. In addition served as Director of Training, Garda College between April 2011 and August 2016. 

2016: Promoted to Assistant Commissioner and assigned to the Southern Region. 

2020: Appointed Acting Deputy Commissioner and assigned Governance & Strategy.

2021: Appointed Deputy Commissioner and assigned Strategy, Governance and Performance.

2021: Appointed Deputy Commissioner and assigned Policing and Security.
