Members of Bridewell Garda station performing John B. Keane's 'The Chastitute'
Three performances, each of them for a different charity
The central Character John Bosco Mc Laine (Garda Barry Ryan) is a 53 year old bachelor living in rural Kerry. He has been consigned to a life of celibacy by a combination of religiously inspired sexual guilt and plain bad luck. His fate is not as a result of lack of effort on his part. A combination of flashbacks, imaginings and actual endeavours with the opposite sex make up this play.
Rehearsals have been happening since January and have recently been stepped up. All donations and sponsorship is greatly appreciated as the whole thing is running on donations and sponsorship alone. The members will be building the stage, getting costumes and props and organising everything with the donations/sponsorship.
Each night is being run for a different charity. The First charity night Friday the 13th April is for Temple Street Hospital. It is charity close to everyone’s heart and we are delighted to be able to run one night of the play for the Staff and Children in the Hospital. The second charity night Saturday 14th April is for the Leanne Kidd Leukaemia Trust Fund. This is a charity which is raising funds for Leukaemia research in Ireland and very worthy of a charity night. The third charity night Sunday the 15th April is for The Capuchin Day Centre for the Homeless on Bow Street, Dublin 7 run by Brother Kevin and his brilliant staff and volunteers.
The Chastitute is running for three nights, starting on Friday 13th, Saturday 14th and Sunday the 15th of April 2012. Doors open at 7pm and the show will commence at 8pm sharp. Seats are first come, first served. Tickets are €10 and there will also be a raffle during the show for lots of great prizes. All proceeds will go to the chosen charity on the night.
